file dependency on file on Unix server

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows how or if I can set the file dependency of a
cache item to be on file located on the Unix Oracle server. I am able to set
up a trigger and procedure on Oracle to update a file once a change has been
made to the table but i am unsure of how to access the file.

Or is there another way to refresh my cached item based upon a change to
data in an Oracle table (that resides on a Unix box).

I have almost no networking experience and most of what I have is on the
windows environment.

I believe (but not sure) the dependency works across windows systems only.
