Default Error number: 0x8024502D error updating microsoft - 05-30-2006 , 03:30 PM

I have automatically update my windows but when I try to manually update it I
get error message Error number: 0x8024502D. I followed the links for this
through Microsoft for download problems and it says it could be:
A misconfigured Proxy/Firewall can cause this problem. Double-check the
Proxy/Firewall settings. Add the following urls to the exception list within
your Firewall/Proxy:
http://*.update.microsoft.com
https://*.update.microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com
For help configuring Proxy/Firewall refer to documentation or contact the
manufacturer.
1. What documentation??
2. How do I know if I only have one firewall security or another.
3. Where is the settings Microsoft refers to?
Thank you for any assistance.

Thank you for your response. I have tried that but although the search
through Microsoft directed me to this same page, I did not see my error
"0x8024502D" just other similar ones. I thought that was weird but I will
re-post my posting..thank you again.

From the link I gave you, there is a list of links for error resolution. One
of those links is:

0x8024402C or 0x8024502d error codes

Clicking on that link provides the following steps:

0x8024402C or 0x8024502d error codes
To resolve these errors, remove characters from the proxy exception list,
and then clear the proxy cache. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Open
Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the Connections tab, click LAN Settings, and then click
Advance.
4. Delete any entry in the Exceptions section.
5. Quit Internet Explorer.
6. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
7. Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command. .
proxycfg -d
. net stop wuauserv
. net start wuauserv
