Default Help With SEnding Email on Vista windows mail - 07-08-2007 , 04:42 PM

I am new to Vista Windows mail. I went to add my comcast account and added it
successfully. I made sure to double check the incoming/outgoing server info I
entered. The problem I am having is that I can receive email, but I can not
send it.
PLEASE HELP, I CAN NOT WORK UNTIL THIS IS FIXED!!!

Here is the message I keep getting.
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'TEST', Account:
'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

First, you need to post your question in in an appropriate group. This is a
..NET programming group.
The best group for your question is:

microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail

I'll cross post this so you get exposure in that group.

Second, have you contacted Comcast technical support about this problem.
They would be the most likely to have a solution for you.

AuburnGirl, are you running either McAfee or Norton antivirus?
If so, your first step would be to uninstall them since those two
antivirus programs are not compatible with Windows Mail.
After you have done that, download and install the free Avast antivirus:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
but be sure to configure it NOT to scan emails.

If you still get an error message after that, copy it and paste it
into a reply here.

- Click Tools
- Click Accounts
- Highlight your Comcast email account and click Properties
- Make sure you incoming POP3 and outgoing SMTP servers are the same
- Make sure your E-mail username and Password fields are complete and correct
- Check the box that says "remember password"
- Check the box that says "My server requires authentication."
- Click OK then Close

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
should be uninstalled.
