Information please.
Do you have MSDE or some other version of SQL Server installed?
Are you using Visual Studio .NET 2003 or some other product? Please specify.
What do you see in Server Explorer?
Details of you situation will allow for better answers.

What happens when you try to create a connection to a database in Database
Explorer?
What do you see when you open SQL Express Manager and connect to your SQL
2005 instance? Do you see your databases there and can you access them?
Again, you'll need to provide more details about your situation.

SQL Express Manager is a separate download. If you didn't download and
install Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2, you won't see Database Explorer.
Here's the link for SQL Express Manager:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Then, you'll need a book or other source to show you how to create and/or
import databases in your SQL Server instance.

Try logging on with .\SQLExpress
That should get you connected.

I suggest you start going through the online documentation for SQL Server
2005 Express:

http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/express/sql/
