Default Liciense Question - 05-22-2007 , 08:31 PM

We have several MSDN Subscriptions in our group. We will be getting formal
training for a larger group later this year. Vendor wants us to configure
our PCs for VirtualPC and load an instance of XP-Pro with IIS, and W2K3
Standard with SQL Server 2005. This would be for about a month period to
cover the courses we are taking. We would be loading up server software and
MSVS 2005 within the temporary Virtual environment. I'm assuming this is
permitted within the scope of educational need?

Are the MSDN subscriptions owned by individuals or by an entity with which
you are all affiliated?
I ask because, although I have an MSDN subscription that allows up to 10
installations of most products, I am not permitted to allow others to use
the software installed under my personal subscription.
Another question. You mention educational need, so are your talking about
MSDN or MSDN AA (MSDN Academic Alliance)? MSDN AA has very different rules.
In general, there are no circumstances under which MSDN (or MSDN AA)
software can be used by people who are not the licensees.
I am neither a Microsoft rep nor an attorney, so if you want a definitive
ruling, you should contact MSDN (or MSDN AA if applicable) by telephone or
email to get an interpretation.

Hi,

I guess MSDN Premium (individual subscription) won't allow you to do so. If
your company/institution has Volume Licensing, then you might do so.
I had MSDN-AA (i.e. Academic Alliance), but again the same, I could provide
software under MSDN-AA to my friends within the institution and within the
same department only, as the software is licensed to department.
You can check the F.A.Qs and sure, get more information by telephone or
online chat.
Again I am too neither a Microsoft rep nor an attorney.
