Question
Subject: Installing LG DVD RAM Drive Missing CM_DEVCAP_UNIQUEID 3/10/2007
7:25 PM PST

By: Frances In: microsoft.public.dotnet.general

I installed the DVD on a Dell XPS400. Dell wants all DVD's to be installed as
Cable select. So I tried that first. When this message was in the Device
Details under Capibilies I called LG. They were no help and did not
understand what this means. After my research I now know that this means
that the DVD or CDROM inf file that installs as PNP Does not see the
Equipment ID. I have reinstalled Windows Media Center 2005 and now I am
concidering updating the chipset from the Dell verision which is 7.0.0 to the
Intel verison of 7.3.1.10. My chipset is 945G/GZ/P/PL. So now the system is
set up with SATA Maxtor in Primary - LG DVD Ram in Drive 0 and NEC DVD R/RW
in Drive 1 as LG in Master and Nec in Slave. However I before I go any
further with the driver installs of course I need to decide if it would
matter regarding the updated version of the chipset.
Sorry this is so long I have worked on this for over two weeks. Now short
of throwing out the new LG I need to learn more about any options. Such as
with DevCon.exe the command line utility. I need help as you can see. Thank
you for taking your time to read this..
