The version of Academic studio.net that I am trying to load is version 2003. The failure occurs when it is trying to load FrontPage. The text that it gives is "The following components failed to install" "Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Web Extension Client". According to the readme file, you can run this in stand alone by executing Weccom.msi. When I run this I get the message "Error 1926" "Could not set file security for this file c:\Config.msi\" Error 5. Verify that you have sufficient priviliges to modify the security permissions for this file. I try to find the file and it is not there. I have read the documentation that was delivered with this package and it requires SP3. If it requires SP4, I will try to load that. I will have to download that file before attempting to update Windows.

Lester,

This could be due to the fact that your system does not have sufficient
free space for temporary files. How much free space do you have?

Also, there is a knowledgebase article describing the situation you might
want to check out at

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;305560

Let us know what you find out.

Thanks for your suggestion. I have reviewed the article that you sent. In answer to your first question, I have 6 gig. of free disk space. I allow windows to create the temp file so it can use whatever it needs. In regards to the second part, I have done the deletes that this article suggest. This did not resolve the problem. I aam not sure that I should do the registry work because the article is talking about another file 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot". I am not sure that this solution would help me in my problem and would not like to chance editing the registry unless I am sure that it would help.

Lester,

I agree with your reluctance to edit the registry. You have a difficult
problem. Is there any chance you could try to install VS on a friends
computer just to see if the problem is machine specific. I am beginning to
wonder if the installation files are corrupt.

Lester,

Have you tried disconnecting from your network and doing the install?

I bought the Academic version of Visual Studio and wanted to load it on my
computer. This computer is hooked up in a peer-to-peer network. My
internet access in on the second computer. I tried to load the package and
it keeps failing with a message tht it cannot update the Config.msi file. I
don't know where this file comes from. Is there someone who has been able
to install this package on a computer without a modem?
