I am trying to re-install on a new laptop, and have all the CD's except the
prereq cd. Can anyone tell me how I can get another cd?

Yes. If you have your product packaging including the install key and
(preferably) your receipt for purchase of the retail Academic Edition, call
your nearest Microsoft office and ask how to get lost media replaced. They
should be able to direct you to the correct office.
FWIW, the CD image can be downloaded only if you have an MSDN subscription
that includes Visual Studio.

Can't you just use the Microsoft update service to get everything you need ?
