An update is available for Zone Alarm and also CCleaner. When I click on the download link, the updates download to desktop as a set up exe. but on clicking *run* I get the following error : 'C:\Documents and Settings\my name\program name is not a valid Win32 application. This is happening with both ZA and CCleaner. I also tried downloading other programs as a test, but get the same message. This is also happening on our other computer - both running winXP professional (SP2) and fully updated. I cannot find a reason or solution - any help would be much appreciated. Link in a previous question doesn't apply here, file is not corrupted (tried too many times - cleared cache and deleted temp files each time and I'm not installing from a CD.) Thanks As this has nothing to do with the .NET Framework and academic issues |

I've looked at them but cant find a solution to my problem. I have re downloaded several times (clearing cache and temp files first) with no luck on either computer. Its been suggested that I do a windows repair from our win CD's, and I'm going to try that next, but it bemuses me how/why this should start on BOTH computers almost simultaneously... Could there be a *bad* windows patch? The problems started after this months MS downloads. AV, Firewall and ad/spy-ware is all up to date and online scans show clean computers.... |

Sorry I don't know what triggered it. If you think it was associated with an update, have you tried removing the latest updates through add/remove programs, then doing a system restore to right before the problem occurred? Try that before doing a repair install, which will necessitate reinstalling all the updates from windows update. If you're not sure what the updates where, look in the C:\windows folder for the uninstall folders for updates, they are compressed (normally in blue font) and have name $NtUninstallKBxxxxxx$ where KBxxxxxx is the knowledge base article number for that update. These are hidden folders so make sure the system is set to show hidden files/folders. Look at the date modified for them to see which are the latest. As an alternate go to windows update, do a manual scan and then check the update history for the list of recent updates. Have you done a thorough scan for malware in safe mode running a combination of programs? |

Hi No I've not - I'll try that today. ![]() Thinking about the updates, its seems unlikely now as I'm sure more reports of this problem would be around it that was the cause. I'll keep plodding on and report back if I find a fix, or a bug... Thanks for your help. |
