I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a student
version of Visual Basic available and if so where you can
get it from.

Not really. There are some textbooks that come with a copy of Visual Basic
and that's one way of getting something. A better way is if your school
(college or high school) belongs to the MSDN AA program (www.msdnaa.net)
they can give students in computer courses copies of the software for free.
The cost to a college is $799/year. The cost for a high school (less
software is included but VB is) is $399.
