Default Windows XP Home Installation - 08-04-2003 , 08:52 AM

I have Windows XP Home Edition and would like to install
VS .Net 2003 Academic edition on it. Will there be any
complications to this? Do you need the Professional
edition of Windows? Please let me know. Thanks!

Hi Matt,

You can install it on Windows XP Home Edition with a couple of caveats. See
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/pr...s/default.aspx for
details. Basically, you can't create ASP.NET Web Applications or ASP.NET
XML Web services with Visual Studio .NET 2003 (any edition, including
Academic) on Windows XP Home Edition.

I'll add to what Ray told you and strongly suggest that if you want to
pursue study of Visual Studio .NET and all it can do, upgrade your OS to
Windows XP Professional. By upgrading, you get the ability to do all the
different types of projects available with full support on your own PC.
Trust me, when you find out how easy and fun web apps are, you'll be glad
you did!
