Default DSN via ODBC.NET works on WIN2K Servers but NOT WinXP Pro - 07-02-2003 , 09:03 PM

James...

I had the same problem, and found an answer... maybe, it will help
you..

I knew I had a rights issue and thought it was to do with Registry
permissions on the ODBC registry entries..

After reetting those permissions, it didn't do much.

I looked at the MACHINE.CONFIG file for the framework and decided to
change the username (under the process model tags) from "machine" to
"SYSTEM".

That fixed the problem... Worked like a charm from then on..

Regards,
Robert

This is the error that I am getting when I attempt to connect to a SYSTEM DSN entry.

I changed the machine.config in C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\CONFI G

so that the process model tage username appeared thus --> userName="SYSTEM"

ERROR [28000] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection."
