Default script error on IE - 12-25-2004 , 10:45 AM

when trying to install McAfee from CD I get right at the beginning
IE scripting error
Line 736
Car 2
Error Type incompatible 'CDbl'
Code 0
URL mcp//E\Enu\misins.dll::Uninstall.htm
Do you want to continue executing script on this page
Whether you choose Yes or No gets to the same result: the application gets
into an endless loop with the setup screen empty.
I have erased files in the cache and stop the IE debuging under IE options
but to no avail.
What next?
Thanks,
Pierre

Pierre,

I have the same problem as you with VirusScan Pro version 9 from CD. I tried both on a PC with XP SP2 an XP SP1 and the script bugs at CDbl on both. I submitted the problem to McAfee and I am waiting for feedback. I let you know if I find a solution. My XP versions are French in both PC but VirusScan Pro is an English one.

Louis bonjour,

In my case one of the PC has XP US Professional and the other XP French Home.
I wish you good luck with McAfee support. In my experience they are
unresponsive either completely or off the mark.

I downloaded and installed Norton instead and wrote off McAfee, but I am
still interested in what develops, if any.

Thanks,

Pierre

Thanks Roland, I will try this. But now I need to find another machine where
to install it since I have Norton, it works, and I do not want to desinstall
it just to check if McAfee now works.
Thanks again,
Pierre

Bonjour Pierre,

Louis.

Hi, Guys!

I had the same problem you have with the same error messeage in McAfee
Virusscan 9.0:

IE scripting error
Line 736
Car 2
Error Type incompatible 'CDbl'
Code 0
URL mcp//E\Enu\misins.dll::Uninstall.htm

I tried everything you wrote here in this article but nothing helped.
Then I finaly found a resolution here it is:

Run the setup.exe from here: D:\VSP\eng\VS. It seems that nothing is
going to happen but in the background McAfee installs and in about 5
mins you're going to see its icons on the desktop (if not then restart
the pc after 10 mins). You're almost done but the update wizard
wouldn't work. You have to update McAfee manualy which means you have
to download and copy the .dat files from McAfee.com to the directory it
says. Then you will be able to use the update wizard too. You're done.

Enjoy!
