Default web drive - 12-29-2005 , 06:06 PM

I would like to create a drive like (x:\) when the user logs into the site,
so the user can save things on the site.

Default RW: web drive - 12-29-2005 , 07:12 PM

I was gonna do that same thing about 3 years ago because I had over a
terabyte of storage on my server. I had a website setup and everything, then
I realized there were already over 1000 other companies out there that have
already been established, they have already got mass data transfer cables in
place, and they have clientele.

Another thing you have to beware of is that you are responsible for all that
data once it is on your system. Not just the data that could be lost, but
the data that is illegal. There are too many sick perverts out there
looking for lowcost webstorage to hold their kiddy porn on. And the people
that are trying to get around the downloading laws by storing their music on
sites like the one you want to setup.

What you could do is set up a site for all of your friends and family to
start storing their data. Ask for donations. Etc.

Good Luck

RW

Freddy,

I don't know if I got the full extent of what you are trying to do, but
as far as creating a local drive mapping to a remote location on the web, I
know that IE and the Windows OS will not allow you to do this. BUT, if the
mapping is to a server on the same network as the client's PC, then an HTA
client app will work nicely. You can also use IE as the client to your web
app, but it requires a lot of security in the options. If this is not what
you are looking for, then explain what you want to accomplish in a little
more detail.
