So, is this available in VB Net 2005 Standard? aka temporarily Express beta?

VB is still the thing to do, but in order to get it done, one needs portable
deployment solutions. And yes getting embed for free and then having to pay
for a CF option is hard, but for someone whose been reading about all this
right along, one feels like it's expected that CF solutions should be part
of ANY Dot Net product. I'm still not over the disappointment of this NOT be
included in 2002 and now here I am looking at a 2003 version install and
it's still not included?

As a purchaser of VB 4,6, 7, 8 Can we not get a free CF upgrade VS studio
solution as a download for free? Or do we have to wait for VB 2005,
Standard, only to find out the only solution is to get the whole studio on
that one too?

Randy

P.S. I'd spend 50 bucks on CF VB only add on, but I don't think I should
have to.

enough time to get it fully tested for inclusion into standard editions.
Same thing with the stand-alone SDK (which would allow integration with
things like SharpDevelop). Believe me, there's a lot of call for this
from
the embedded world where the C++ IDE and compilers have been free for some
time. Trying to convince someone they now have to buy a $2000 package is
a
tough sell.

Hi Chris,

Con? How so? I'm just pointing out that device development isn't
really
an
option without Studio Pro. The story may change with the release of
Studio
'05, but today that's how it is.

Surely in this day and age of hi-tech modular programming they could
have
included the necessary device development features in each standardized
component. I *personally* don't have the need for it at the moment
anyway
but if I did I would be seriously upset if I needed to purchase an
extremely
expensive piece of software to add this facility, like why not make a
"VB.NET Mobile Edition" and make it only develop software for mobile
devices
then charge like £50 for it?

Nick.

Hi,

There is always the free embedded visual tools 3.0. It doesnt
support the compact framework you need vs.net 2003 pro or greater for that.

Ken,

Yup, I got that, but guess what VB Embed doesn't seem to really want to
work under the 2003 version of Windows for Pocket PC. And it's still wasting
space with all of it supporting files. As cool as it is, you still have to
manage a bit of C just to get an icon that goes with your program. It was
done. I think my point really was, that it was still left out of the
standard version of VB when everything I'd been reading seem to say you
could do it in Dot Net. Well, you can, just not VB Dot Net.

Anyway, add it to the wish list, because it doesn't appear to be part of the
Dot Net Express version of VB 9. *Wails and moans*

Cheers

Randy

I've done a couple of Pocket PC apps using it and, so far, no real problems.

Hate to be a "stickler" but you owned VB4,5,6 and B#1,2 & ?? Despite the
marketting hype, there are no versions of Visual Basic newer than version 6.
B# is not VB
