Default VB.NET or Visual Studio.net - 08-31-2004 , 05:08 PM

Our company is ready to purchase .net. If we typically do
our programming in Visual Basic, should we simply purchase
VB.NET ($100) or should we purchase VS.NET ($1100). I know
this question has probably been asked 1000
times......Also, is it better to purchase the
subscription? DO you get upgrades (VS 2005) free? Thanks

As Visual Basic .NET Standard Edition is meant (primarily) for beginners and
students, and lacks several features and capabilities provided in Visual
Studio .NET, I would recommend Visual Studio for any kind of professional
development.
This page may help you decide:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vbasic/howtobuy/upgrade.aspx

If you purchase Visual Studio .NET 2003 as a retail package, any upgrade
deals to Visual Studio 2005 are an unknown. If you go with the MSDN
Universal Subscription, you are guaranteed any new version of included
products as part of the subscription, given that the new version is released
while your subscription is active.

This might be an option for your company as well:
