Default Silverlight XAML Rendering problem in .NET IDE - 07-28-2009 , 06:20 PM

Hi all,

I recently uninstalled Silverlight 2.0 and replaced it by 3.0 but since
then, I can only see the XAML code in my .NET IDE 2008 Pro edition. I'm not
getting any errors and I don't seem to have any dodgy references.

As I said, I've uninstalled all the SL2 and re-installed the latest SL3 for
VS2008 Tools, Silverlight 3.0 & 3.0 SDK. I've also installed the preview
edition of Sketchflow & Blend which both use SL3, but no luck.

My view is no longer split into XAML & Preview. It only seem to have a XAML
Tab?

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Many thanks.

Thierry

Sadly, this behaviour is by design.

Detail here: http://timheuer.com/blog/archive/2009/07/10/silverlight-3-released-what-is-new-and-changed.aspx

Where did my design view go?! You may notice right away that the VS
tools no longer have the preview mode for your XAML in Silverlight
projects. This is by design. We heard some pretty vocal feedback
that the preview was usually turned off for most development because
it was not turning out to be helpful as the applications got more
complex. The team decided put the resource investment into creating a
great editable design surface in VS2010 instead and not delay the
release of Silverlight 3.

Hi Marc,

Thanks a lot for this link. I can't believe they did not have a big red sign
saying so, it would have saved me a lot of time
installing/removing/re-installing & browsing the web for a solution as I was
convinced, something had gone wrong with my IDE.

Anyway, I'll use Blend for the time being.

Thanks again.
