Default vss cluster? - 08-01-2003 , 11:44 AM

we are working on setting up a single source control system which will be
used by offices in several different states. For this reason, I'm looking
to see if I can setup vss in some sort of server cluster arrangement, with
all servers writing to a raid drive. Can this be done with VSS? thanks,

I don't think there are any good solutions for this. VSS is not a
client-server application. So each client is simply reading and writing
files from/to the server. Each office will either need access to the main
VSS database (possibly via a web solution), or they'll have to have their
own (local) database. If you don't use a web-based solution (i.e. you try to
run directly over a VPN, then you'll also have to contend with time zone
issues, which VSS by itself doesn't deal with well at all.

You will also have problems if those users are in different time zones. You
might want to consider using SourceOffsite in front of VSS.
